Why Honolulu Homes Wear Out Windows Faster

Honolulu is hard on windows. Salt air pits and corrodes aluminum frames and hardware, especially in homes close to the water. Year-round sun breaks down cheap vinyl and fades interiors. Humidity gets into failed seals and leaves glass cloudy, which we cover in our guide to window condensation in Hawaii.

Older homes add their own problems. A lot of Honolulu houses still have single-pane aluminum sliders or jalousie louvers. They let the trade winds in, but they also let in rain, noise, dust and heat, and they’re easy to pry open. If that sounds like your place, our article on jalousie windows in Hawaii explains when it makes sense to repair them and when to replace them.

Replacement Windows and Doors We Install in Honolulu

  • Ali’i Extreme vinyl windows. We’re the only licensed distributor on Oahu for this Anlin line, which was developed for the Hawaiian climate. It uses vinyl with UV inhibitors, stainless steel hardware that won’t rust in salt air, and a glass coating that blocks 95% of harmful UV rays. It’s backed by Anlin’s lifetime warranty.
  • Hurricane impact windows. Ali’i impact windows are tested against debris traveling 40 feet per second and built for winds up to 120 mph, so you don’t have to scramble for plywood every storm season.
  • Entry and patio doors. We install Therma-Tru fiberglass doors, Simpson wood-clad doors and Tru-Frame security screen doors, which let you keep the door open for air without giving up security.
  • Patio covers and pergolas. Four Seasons patio covers, pergolas and louvered roofs turn a sunny slab into a shaded lanai you can use rain or shine.
  • Siding. James Hardie fiber cement and other low-maintenance siding that holds up to moisture and termites better than wood.

Honolulu Neighborhoods We Serve

We work throughout the city, including Kahala, Aina Haina, Niu Valley, Kaimuki, Kapahulu, Manoa, Makiki, Nuuanu, Pauoa, Kalihi, Kapalama, Moanalua, Salt Lake, Palolo and Waialae. We also cover Hawaii Kai, Aiea, Pearl City and the rest of Oahu.

Condos, Townhomes and Older Homes

If you live in a condo or townhome, your association may have rules about window style, color or glass. Check with your AOAO or property manager before you order. We’re happy to provide product details for your board.

Older single-wall and plantation-style homes often have openings that aren’t a standard size. That’s normal. We measure each opening and order windows built to fit. Before work starts, we’ll also confirm whether your project needs a permit from the City and County of Honolulu.

How Much Does Window Replacement Cost in Honolulu?

Price depends on the number of windows, their size and style, the glass package, whether you want impact glass and how much work the old frames need. A bathroom slider and a large picture window in the living room can be very different jobs. For typical price ranges and a quick calculator, see our Hawaii window replacement cost guide. The fastest way to get a real number is a free estimate. We also offer financing, and you can check our current specials.

Honolulu Window Replacement FAQs

Do vinyl windows hold up to salt air?

Good-quality vinyl does. It won’t rust or pit the way aluminum does. The weak spot is usually the hardware, which is why Ali’i Extreme uses stainless steel locks and parts.

Will new windows make my house cooler?

They usually help. Low-E coated glass cuts down on the heat coming through the glass, and a tight seal keeps conditioned air inside if you run AC. Homes with west-facing windows tend to notice the biggest difference.

Should I replace my jalousie windows?

If they leak, won’t close tight or have missing louvers, replacement is usually the better long-term fix. Many homeowners switch to casement or sliding windows that still open wide for the breeze.

Do you only work in Honolulu?

No. We serve all of Oahu from our office in Kapolei, including the Windward side, Central Oahu, the Leeward coast and the North Shore.
